Sheila L. Braaten graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of
Science (Advanced) and a Bachelor of Laws, both in 1982. She was admitted to the bar in
Saskatchewan in 1983 and in British Columbia in 1985. She has been associated with Chen &
Leung since 1999.
Sheila L. Braaten’s practice involves all aspects of real estate transactions including
financing and acquisitions, real estate development, master planned communities, condominium
developments, subdivisions and resort developments, including fractional and time share
interests. During her years of practice, she gained experience in realization proceedings and
foreclosures as well as business acquisitions. She also has extensive experience in banking,
financing commercial and residential real estate, including drafting commitment letters, drafting
standard mortgage terms for financial institutions, security for loans on condominiums and
construction projects and negotiating and finalizing mortgage servicing agreements between
institutional lenders.
Sheila L. Braaten has participated as an instructor and guest lecturer for the Continuing Legal
Education Society of British Columbia and the Professional Legal Training Course for its
courses on mortgages, foreclosures and real estate conveyance. She is also a past director of
Alexander Mortgage Investment Corporation and volunteers for the Salvation Army, Red Shield
Appeal.
